Single Light Portrait

Was working all day and needed to get out and shoot something so I took my friends younger brother Alex out to test out a new my Westcott 26 inch Rapid Box for my Canon 430EX II Speedlite that I picked up at B & H Photo Video. I have been trying to get more and more in portrait work, but it’s been hard finding people to work with, so if you are reading this drop me a line if you’re interested in getting in front of my lens. I still need a lot of practice using lighting, but for first outdoor using one light I personally think it came out pretty decent. Canon give me a chance on your Explores of Light Team I can guarantee I will not disappoint if I had the chance.

A Single White Rose

I posted the unedited version of this shot on Instagram yesterday, but I felt it could use a wee bit of tweaking to get what I actually saw out of it. Basic jpeg scan on a Plustek 8200i and edited in Photoshop with the Camera Raw feature and messing around with the Gradient tool with some pallets I had saved. All in all I like the unedited film version but I’m personally partial to a bit more contrast in my images.

Kentmere Pan 400

Loaded a roll of Kentmere Pan 400 into my AE1 for a quick walkabout and I can say this black and white shootout I’m working is going to be getting harder when it comes down to choosing a favorite film type.

35mm Film Battle

My goal for the next few weeks is to shot every type of Black and White 35mm film I can get my hands on and as of right now my two favorites are the Cinestill BwXX and this Ilford Delta 100 but I have a strong feeling I’m going to like the roll of Kodak TMax 3200 I picked up from some the images I have seen.

Happy Fathers Day

I don’t have many shots of my father, but this one it buy far my favorite of him. He reads the Bible three to fours times a day. I asked after I took this shot if he reads is from front to back, he told me no and that when he sits down to read a passage he just made opens to a random page and reads. I asked him why he did it this way and he said it was because where ever the book to opened too was where he was supposed to be at that time. I myself am more of a agnostic when it comes to belief, but I can’t argue with his logic because I do believe when we do something it was meant to be that way and that time.

Ilford Delta 100

I went to B & H and picked up a bottle of Cinestill Df96 monobath to test out developing my own black and white photos to save some money and also because I hate waiting to get something back even if it’s only a day.  Anyway I am pretty happy with the results some far and will probably be developing my own black and white photos from now on.

Lunch Break

Sometimes you just need to sit, smoke a cigarette and check your social media.

Rush Hour

I have been avoiding Chinatown for a minute because it seems to have become cliche  over the last few years, also it has been overrun with tourists on holiday in New York, I don’t have a problem with tourists I just try to avoid them when I’m walking around. Anyway I took a detour and cut thru Chinatown and was reminded why I continue to stay away.

Out of My “Comfort Zone”

Was out and about with Mr. Lorenzo Mitil yesterday and ended up north of Houston Street which I never do because I’m my opinion it is boring and there is nothing to photograph and I might have wee bit wrong, but I will still stand behind my original opinion.
